Pemetrexed (alimta) may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. To lower your chances of side effects of pemetrexed (alimta), you must also take folic acid and vitamin B12 prior to and during your treatment with pemetrexed (alimta).
Alimta is an antifolate antineoplastic agent. It works by decreasing tumor cell growth. Before receiving pemetrexed (alimta), tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have kidney or liver disease, a weak immune system, or excess fluid in the space around your lung, liver, or other internal organs. Pemetrexed (alimta) is given with cisplatin, another anti-cancer medicine (chemotherapy).
