i>Sulfamethoxazole (bactrim) and trimethoprim are both antibiotics that treat different types of bacterial infections. Sulfamethoxazole (bactrim) and trimethoprim fight bacteria in your body. Bactrim Tablets is an antibiotic combination containing a sulfonamide antibiotic. It works by killing sensitive bacteria. Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Some medical conditions may interact with Bactrim Tablets. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding, if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances. Take all of the sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated.
