Celexa

Generic Name: citalopram (oral) (si TAL o pram)

Brand name: Celexa

Drug interactions:

Citalopram (celexa) is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Citalopram (celexa) affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression. These medicines are thought to work by increasing the activity of the chemical serotonin in the brain. The RISK OF SUICIDAL THINKING AND BEHAVIOR was increased by antidepressants in short-term studies in children and adolescents with certain psychiatric disorders. You may have an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior at the start of treatment with an antidepressant medication, especially if you are under 18 years old. Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to citalopram (celexa). Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
