Duloxetine (cymbalta) is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs). Treating depression and managing pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPNP). It works by restoring the balance of 2 chemicals in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine). It is also used for pain caused by nerve damage associated with diabetes. This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.
Do not take duloxetine (cymbalta) together with thioridazine (Mellaril), or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate). Children should not usually take duloxetine (cymbalta) . However, if your doctor prescribes duloxetine (cymbalta) for your child to treat depression, caution must be used.
