Letrozole (femara) blocks the use of estrogen by certain types of breast cancer that require estrogen to grow. Female hormones that occur naturally in the body can increase the growth of some breast cancers. Letrozole (femara) works by decreasing the amounts of these hormones in the body. Femara may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. This medicine is meant to be used only by women who have already stopped menstruating. Before taking letrozole , tell your doctor if you have liver disease. You may not be able to use letrozole or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement. This medicine has been tested and has not been shown to cause different effects in older women than in younger adults.
